Barcelona announced the second season of their documentary series ‘FC Barcelona, A New Era’ a few months ago after the success of the first season. It follows Xavi’s first full season as Barça’s first-team manager, their trials and tribulations, and eventual La Liga glory.
The club hosted the official screening for the show today, with multiple club stars present at the premiere. Xavi and Joan Laporta also graced the event with their presence, and were given the chance to speak, as well.
Xavi hailed captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen in high praise, saying, “Ter Stegen is the best goalkeeper in the world. I see him happy with us.”
Ter Stegen got the chance to reply to Xavi’s kind words, as he said, “I appreciate the words and trust Xavi. I always try to give my best version.”
President Laporta followed suit as well, giving the German goalkeeper his flowers for an incredible 2022/23 season and his contractual sacrifices including salary deferment.
“Ter Stegen is a guarantee in goal, he is a person of value. He has adapted to the club, the city, and the country and that is why he is the captain of the team. We are happy to have him. We have to thank him for restricting his contract because it allowed us to sign other players,” he said.
Laporta and Xavi did not miss the chance to shower each other with compliments during the event, as well, with the former saying, “Xavi, for me, you are the best coach we could have. It is a great honour to be the president of a Barcelona team coached by you.”
The Spanish manager repaid the favour by holding the Barcelona president in high acclaim, as well.
“If there is a positive person in this world, it is Laporta. Whenever things get worse, he sees it from a positive angle. He gives me and the players tremendous confidence. He always comes down to the locker room and supports us.”
