There has been a lot of noise lately regarding Barcelona’s financial situation. After lowering their wage bill by €161 million this summer, the club are calm about their economic position, despite the club’s salary limit being set at €270 million.
La Liga president Javier Tebas has recently opened up on Barça’s financial situation, notably praising the club’s efforts over the summer transfer window.
Tebas lauds Barça’s efforts in the market
“Barça, although they have not reached the salary limit, has made a tremendous effort. It must be recognized. It is not a loss-making business, but things always appear that are not foreseen,” Tebas said.
The La Liga president, though, suggested that Barcelona might need to sell a ‘great player’ in order to return to normalcy.
“When will Barça return to a normal situation? It depends on them. Maybe if they sell a great player it would be a huge step for them,” he added.
Tebas went on to point out that La Liga will keep an eye on Barcelona, adding, “Maybe we will keep a close eye on Barça’s situation for another two or three seasons.”

The Spaniard, though, raised issues about Joao Felix’s wages at Barcelona.
It has been reported that Felix is earning just €400,000 wages at Barça, but Tebas confirmed that La Liga have set his salary much higher in their Fair Play calculations.
“For us, what Felix receives is not what Barça pay him. Joao Felix’s contract is much higher. We consider it to be much higher,” he said.
He also highlighted La Liga’s poor financial records, stating, “In terms of financial matters, we are the worst league in Europe.”
