In a positive update, David Bernabeu Reverter of SPORT is reporting that there is optimism within the Barcelona technical staff regarding the condition of midfielder Ilkay Gundogan after his injury last night.
The veteran star suffered a back injury after enduring a fall from a height during Germany’s international friendly against France on Tuesday.
It sent alarm bells ringing at Barcelona, especially given that Pedri is already out with an injury.
Injury not as serious
Reports from Germany early in the morning suggested that Gundogan had sustained a severe pelvic bruise from his fall and more tests would be conducted on him once he flew back to Barcelona.
Now, the aforementioned report from SPORT is reporting that the midfielder’s injury is not as serious as it was perceived to be.
As such, there is a sense of optimism regarding Gundogan’s condition within the Barcelona staff, including manager Xavi Hernandez.
Although more tests will be carried out in the coming hours, this is still a relief for the Blaugrana who are set to play as many as seven games between now and the next international break.

Despite there being optimism around his injury, it is still uncertain whether Gundogan will be ready to face Real Betis this coming Saturday.
Keeping in mind that Barcelona will be playing their first UEFA Champions League game of the season next Tuesday, Xavi & co. could very well decide not to risk the German this weekend.
In that scenario, new signing Joao Felix could find himself making his first start for the La Liga champions, slotting in on the left flank while Gavi moves into midfield.
