Newcastle’s CEO Darren Eales has revealed how he hopes to have developed a great ‘connection’ with fans in the US and believes there is a ‘bright future ahead’ as we prepare for the new season.
Speaking after a fan event during our tour of the US, Eales explained how he wanted the club to ‘engage’ with supporters and make them feel more connected in order to grow the reputation of the club worldwide.
Ahead of the new campaign, the former Atlanta United man admitted that we will see plenty of ‘ups and downs’, but is excited about working with the ‘unbelievable’ Eddie Howe once again.
We still have a lot of work to do in the transfer window and another couple of pre-season friendlies this weekend, so hopefully even more positive signs of progress in the coming weeks.
It will be tough to top what was such an unexpected and thrilling season last year, but Eales has promised that everyone involved at the club is working hard to make sure that the future is successful.
Speaking to Chronicle Live after the fan event in America, Eales had this to say:
“We’re getting there, I think we are. The reality is we have to be purposeful about it. It’s not just a case of sitting back and hoping people are going to be Newcastle United fans. We have to engage with the fans we already have.
“Events like we have in the States are perfect for that because they then feel they are part of the club. They get to see Shay Given and Shola Ameobi, and they feel the connection in the club. Then they go back into their communities and start talking about Newcastle and what make it different from Liverpool and Manchester United. So I think we have a real opportunity to grow the club.”
