June 8 – Dominique Blanc (pictured) has been re-elected for a third and final term as president of Swiss Football.
The Vaud native was unanimously re-elected at the federations annual congress in Bern. With a solid foundation in the amateur game, Blanc assumed the helm of the SFV in 2019 and will continue to lead the organisation for another two years.
At the meeting new age and term limits were adopted. In the future, board members may serve for a maximum of 12 years but must resign at the age of 70.
The assembly also unanimously approved a motion to expand the board of directors from seven to nine members. In a progressive move, the two new positions will be exclusively reserved for women, reflecting the commitment to promoting gender equality at the highest levels of the organization.
“Two women on the central board – that’s another historic step in Swiss football,” said Blanc. “Women should play a key role in Swiss football in the future.”
The Swiss FA president sees women’s football as a cornerstone of his success, after landing the hosting rights to Euro 2025 with his organisation.
Blanc said: “We look back on successful years with our national teams and brought the European Women’s Championship to Switzerland in 2025.
In the bidding race to host the championships, the Swiss sprung a surprise to beat the Nordic countries, France and Poland, with their compact geographical bid impressing UEFA.
In his final term, Blanc wants to build a ‘Home of Swiss Football’ modelled on famous training centres like Coverciano in France and Clairefontaine in France. The SFV has commissioned a feasibility study and is seeking partners to finance the project.
