Over the past 24 hours, there have been contradicting reports emerging on the future of Lionel Messi and the decision of his next club.
The 35-year-old is a free agent this summer, having confirmed his exit from PSG, and has been linked with a move back to Barcelona.
Messi is understood to have made it a priority to move back to the Catalan outfit, but the lack of a formal offer from the club has been a major hindrance.
Even though reports suggest that the Blaugrana intend to submit an official contract proposal to the Argentina captain today, they are not in a position to guarantee his registration until and unless some player sales take place.
So, there are some concerns within the Messi camp, especially given how things had gone down two years ago when he had to leave. In that scenario, Inter Miami have presented themselves as an option.
As per The Athletic, Inter Miami are pushing hard to get the signing of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner across the line this summer.
Sources involved in the conversations are understood to have been told that Messi’s decision is a 50/50 between Barcelona and Inter Miami at this point, and that a move to Saudi Arabia is ‘not under consideration’.
Inter Miami’s offer to sign Messi is being backed by two of the MLS’ biggest sponsors in Adidas and Apple. The proposal will be similar to the one which was offered to David Beckham when he made the jump to LA Galaxy.
As such, the World Cup winner would have the option to purchase a percentage of an MLS team upon the end of his time as a player in the league.
Some reports suggest that Inter Miami are growing very optimistic about their chances of roping in the world champion. But, Barcelona are unlikely to go down without a fight and will make all efforts to ensure that their prodigal son returns home.
