The Premier League have continued their theme of putting fans best interests bottom of the priority list after the latest set of fixtures were moved for TV broadcast last night.
Two long haul away games have been pushed back from Saturday to a Sunday, with our trip to Spurs moved to a 4:30pm kick off on Sunday 23rd of October, while a South Coast clash against Southampton – one of the longest trips of the Premier League season – will now take place on Sunday 6th of November at 2:00pm.
The trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been rearranged for a second time to accommodate ‘UEFA scheduling’ the following midweek, when the North London side host Sporting Lisbon. This is of no benefit to Newcastle fans who’ve already had to readjust their plans for this fixture once after it was initially changed rearranged for Saturday at 5:30pm, meaning anyone who has booked trains or hotels for this date will be left out of pocket and at risk of missing out.
As for the third game moved for TV, any Newcastle fans planning on attending the home fixture against Chelsea should also be aware that the Blues’ trip to St. James’ Park will now be an evening fixture to Sky Sports’ request, with the game now taking place at 5:30pm.
There has been no clarification behind the switch of the Southampton and Chelsea games, but there is expected to be a lot of issues involving fixture congestion following the league’s recent postponement as the nation entered a period of mourning.
That we can understand, but moving the Spurs trip for the SECOND time – which could leave fans struggling to get back from London the night before work on Monday – and arranging the longest away day in the Premier League for a Sunday is typical of the Premier League; who claim to put fans first but do anything but.
All of the rescheduled games will be available to watch live on Sky Sports.
