Barcelona are set to lock horns with Bayern Munich on Tuesday, in what could be Xavi Hernandez’s most challenging game in charge of the Catalans.
However, given Barcelona’s form in these early parts of the campaign, it could also be a major challenge for Bayern, especially with the Bavarians now dropping points in the Bundesliga for three matchdays in a row.
With Kingsley Coman also ruled out, Bayern must rely on their existing stars to pull themselves out of this mess and continue their good form against Barcelona.
One of the players who could play a key role for Bayern Munich in this encounter is Leroy Sane. The German international is one of Bayern’s creative lynchpins and with four goals and three assists this season, his contributions could be critical in the final third.
However, Sane’s career trajectory could have been very different six years ago, when the winger had stated his desire to join Barcelona.

Back in 2016, when Sane was still plying his trade for Schalke, he had voiced his desire to play for a top club in Europe. Barcelona were on the top of his list.
“It’s not a secret, I’d like to play for a big club… I’d especially like to play for Barça, it’s been my dream since I was a kid,” he said in 2016.
Sane, though, ended up joining Manchester City at the end of the 2015/16 season, for a staggering €52 million. His time at Etihad saw him feature in 135 competitive matches, scoring 39 goals while mustering 46 assists.
