Barcelona teenager set to sign contract extension before October

It was recently revealed that the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United were keen on the arrival of Gavi.

The 18-year-old, whose current contract expires in the summer of 2023 was understandably on a number of clubs’ shopping list. However, a fresh revelation suggests that this may not be the case for long, with the youngster set to stay put at the Spotify Camp Nou for years to come.

As per a report by Mundo Deportivo , Gavi is on the verge of penning a contract extension at Barcelona, with the deal expected to be completed within this month.

Spanish journalist Sigue Rodriguez had even claimed that the teenager was set to sign a long-term contract at the club until 2026.

Ultimately, this is an excellent piece of news for culers, as there is no disputing the fact that Gavi is one of the finest youngsters in world football.

Deemed ready to start as many as 28 league games for the Catalan giants last term, Xavi is clearly a fan of the magisterial midfielder, who has instantly made an impression since being blooded into the side.

In the ongoing season as well, the Spanish international has started from the off in every league clash, which just points to his importance to the side already.

Alongside Pedri, the pair could be Barcelona’s midfield duo for years to come, much like in the same vein as Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.

While Barça have been lauded for bringing in high-profile names such as Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Raphinha, Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen to name a few, perhaps one of their best signings may prove to be keeping hold of securing Gavi’s future at the club.
